Creative Writing

Not every piece needs a whole book behind it.

A short story that isn't landing, a voice that hasn't found its register yet, a scene you've rewritten five times without knowing why it still feels off: this is craft level, collaborative help for the writing itself, sized to the piece in front of you rather than a full manuscript.

What This Service Covers

Focused craft support, for the writing that doesn't need a full manuscript built around it

This service is for shorter, standalone creative work: a short story, a personal essay, a piece of creative nonfiction, a chapter or scene that isn't cooperating, or a voice you're still developing across several pieces. It's craft level collaboration: story development, character and plot work, and narrative voice coaching, applied directly to what you're writing.

It sits deliberately between our other two writing services. Ghostwriting builds an entire manuscript for you from interviews and your ideas; our book writing service is a full length collaborative process where you do the drafting with structural support behind you. Creative writing is neither: it's for the short story collection, the single essay, or the scene that needs a second creative mind, without committing to a full book project.

How We Help

Craft support wherever a piece needs it

Story Development

Working through what a short story or essay is actually trying to do, its premise, stakes, and shape, before the sentences get fussed over.

Character Development

Digging into who your characters are and what they want, so their choices on the page feel earned rather than convenient.

Plot Support

Help untangling a scene, a subplot or a story's turning point when the sequence of events isn't yet doing what you need it to.

Narrative Voice

Focused work on finding and holding a consistent voice, its tone, rhythm, and point of view, across a single piece or a body of shorter work.

Creative Nonfiction

Craft support for personal essays and memoir excerpts, where the facts are yours but the storytelling still needs shaping.

Collaborative Sessions

Direct back and forth with a writer on a specific piece: talking through drafts, trying alternatives, and troubleshooting what isn't working yet.

How It Works

A process sized to the piece, not a full book

  1. Tell Us About the Piece

Share what you're working on, a short story, an essay, a handful of scenes, and where it's currently stuck or unfinished.

  2. Writer Match

We match you with a writer whose genre and craft strengths fit what you're making, whether that's literary fiction or creative nonfiction.

  3. Craft Conversation

A working session on the specific problem, whether voice, plot, character, or structure, grounded in your actual pages, not general advice.

  4. Collaborative Drafting or Notes

Depending on what you need, your writer either works alongside you on the page or provides detailed notes for your own next pass.

  5. Your Review

You read everything that comes back and decide what to keep: this stays a collaboration on your piece, not a handoff.

Working Together

A second creative mind on your page, not a replacement for it

Sessions are built around your actual draft: reading it closely, talking through what's working and what isn't, and trying alternatives together. The goal is a sharper piece in your own voice, not someone else's version of it.

Questions, Answered

Frequently Asked Questions

Ghostwriting means a writer produces a full manuscript for you, credited to you, built from interviews and your ideas. Book writing is a full length collaborative process where you do most of the actual drafting with structural coaching behind you. Creative writing is smaller in scope than both: craft level help on short stories, essays, specific scenes or narrative voice, without committing to a full book.

No. Some writers bring a rough draft that needs troubleshooting, others bring a premise or a handful of scenes and want help developing it from there. We'll ask about the shape of what you have during your first conversation.

Yes, that's a common use of this service. We can work story by story, or focus on the collection as a whole once individual pieces are stronger, including how the pieces sit together in voice and tone.

That's fine. Sessions can be scoped to a single scene, chapter excerpt or plot problem rather than an entire manuscript: this service is built around the size of the actual problem, not a fixed package.

No, the aim is the opposite. Sessions are collaborative and built around your draft and your voice; a writer here is there to develop and sharpen what you're already making, not to write it over in a different style.

Both. Personal essays and memoir excerpts get the same craft level attention as short fiction: narrative shape, voice and pacing matter in nonfiction storytelling just as much as in fiction.

It can, if a piece grows into something bigger than originally planned. There's no obligation either way: we'll talk honestly about which of our services fits once we understand where you want the project to go.

It varies by what you need: some writers work through a series of focused conversations tied to your drafts, others provide detailed written notes between rounds. We'll agree on a structure before work begins, based on the piece and your schedule.
